Meet the Friends of Just Fer Paws Kennels!

Just Fer Paws Kennels counts on the assistance of our friends and neighbors — we're a part of a community of people and animals who all care for one another. Please take a few minutes to learn more about some of our human friends and some of our departed animal companions.

Cheryl A. Ruby- R.I.P-2/1/1947 - 7/24/2017

Cheryl was the PR person who helped spread the word of Just Fer Paws Kennels. She was also Jon Evans' mother and Charlie's Mother-in-law. Along with Bill, her husband, she was the property owner of the 4 acres on which Just Fer Paws Kennels is located.

Cheryl retired from the teaching profession and put her communication skills to use in sharing Just Fer Paws Kennels with the world. We are thankful for all the hard work Cheryl did for us. God blessed us with her and we are thankful for the time we had with her.

Earl - R.I.R May 23, 2023

This Great Dane came to us January 2021 from a local that was no longer able to care for him, at that time he was 6 years old. Earl took an immediate liking to Charlie and those two were inseparable. This goofy big guy was a joy to have around and was quite fun to watch as he took over the cottage and everyone's hearts. At 9 years old Earl ended up getting a twisted gut along with other major health issues. On May 23. 2023 the decision was made to say goodbye to this beautiful boy and our home seems empty without him.

Jake - R.I.P. 12/25/2017

Jake was a special dog. He belonged to an angel. When Dawn's friend Kelly was diagnosed with cancer, Dawn helped her pick Jake from a rescue. Jake was a great companion for Kelly during her battle.

Unfortunately, Kelly lost her battle with cancer in the fall of 2008. Her one wish was that Jake be in a safe and happy home. Jake had spent a lot of time with the "Comedy Canines" while Kelly went through treatment and he was very comfortable with them. Jake is now a part of the family and a wonderful reminder of Kelly's spirit. When Dawn left for Hawaii, she gave Jake to Charlie and Jon so he could live out the rest of his days in a happy home where he knew he was loved. It was a sad night when we had to say good bye to our special boy.
Sunshine

Sunshine: R.I.P. 12/21/2014

Charlie rescued Sunshine from the Sevier County Humane Society on July 18, 2013. He had been thinking about getting a puppy, but something about this little 7-year-old Jack Russell mix caught his attention. Charlie immediately fell in love with her. Sunshine was with us for only a short time, but her last two years were filled with love and good care. It is always hard to lose a pup to Diabetes.

Pootie- R.I.P. December 9, 2017

Jon found this cat in Newport, TN, in July 2016. She was in bad shape — her hair was matted and she had wounds from fighting. Jon decided this little girl needed a safe place to live and brought her home. She then lived in the office and enjoyed staying dry and comfortable. It was unfortunate that this little girl was 16 when Jon found her so we only got to have this precious little girl for two years.
Buddy

Buddy: R.I.P. 06/13/2016

Cheryl and Bill Ruby adopted Buddy from the Sevier County Humane Society in December 2014, Buddy was an older cat, about 6 years of age. He was a regular visitor of Just Fer Paws Kennels and much loved by many of the visiting clients and their families.

It was a sad day when we all found out that Buddy had cancer. He fought the good fight as long as he could, but his time was up and we said goodbye to the friendliest cat we have ever known.

Tabitha: R.I.P. 07/25/2020

This little black cat was found in October 2010, locked in a boiler room of an old church that was being used as a soup kitchen for the homeless in Brockton, MA. Jon was volunteering there at the time, and he instantly fell in love with her.

Tabitha was with Jon for a little over 10 years and it was devastating to find that her quality of life deteriorated so quickly with little anyone could do to help her so the decision to say goodbye was made. Rest well my fur-baby soul mate.
